I organize a weekly online reading workshop on Zoom on the works of K.E. Løgstrup, which meets during typical university terms. The workshop is in English and open to interested readers everywhere. Upcoming Løgstrup Reading Workshop Theme: Løgstrup’s critique of Kierkegaard

This term, we will read two works by Løgstrup that deal with his critiques of Søren Kierkegaard and some of Kierkegaard’s 20th century interpreters:
- Kierkegaard and Heidegger’s Analysis of Existence and its Relation to Proclamation, a series of lectures Løgstrup delivered in Germany in which he began to formulate his famous concept of “the ethical demand” as a response to Kierkegaard’s concepts of being lost in the crowd vs. living authentically before God, being under an infinite demand before God, the question of taking over concrete existence, and the nature of guilt.
- Controverting Kierkegaard, where Løgstrup challenged Kierkegaard’s understanding of Christianity and gave the first robust account of his concept of “sovereign expressions of life,” which permeated the rest of his writings.
- We will also read a small selection of texts by Søren Kierkegaard, K. Olesen Larsen, and Johannes Sløk that shed light on opposing views
